Konavle silk weaving in Dubrovnik Museums
The Croatian Museum Association has been organizing a Museum Night event throughout Croatia since 2005. The event takes place on the last Friday in January, when all museums open their doors long into the night. Numerous programs for children and adults attract large audiences, and the museums shine in their full glory.
This year, a rich program was prepared in the Dubrovnik Museums. Among other things, the Ethnographic Museum Rupe organized a program presenting the sericulture of Konavle called Arte Seta. Visitors had the opportunity to see the extraction of silk thread from silkworm cocoons in the Konavle way, and to learn about silk, a material of the past and the future.
Antonia Rusković Radonić presented to the audience the value and importance of silk fiber, its use in the past and its potential for the future. The discussion focused on the city use of silk and its use in the countryside, with an emphasis on the Konavle heritage story.
