Dear Friends of Konavle,

 

After eight years as director of Museums and Galleries of Konavle, I am convinced that more can be done to present Konavle’s history, and to preserve its heritage through the activities of a non-profit organization.  For this purpose we have started Friends of Konavle Heritage.

 

Our goal is to keep alive the knowledge that was born of traditional life in Konavle throughout the centuries. We want to tell the stories of Konavle through our projects.

 

Konavle’s history is ancient and understudied. Its story includes periods of both Greek and Roman settlements, but goes back even further — to the Illyrians and beyond. We need more research, categorizing, and documenting the history of the Konavle region.

 

To this end, our organization will be collaborating with historians, scientists, artists, and other experts. The goal is to protect and showcase historic sites, art, architecture, and the intangible cultural heritage of Konavle. 

 

Friends of Konavle Heritage is looking for memberships and donations from all over the world, and especially from Croatians and from the Konavle diaspora. By giving our time and financial support, we, and the rest of the world, will have a better understanding of our unique heritage. All members will be kept informed of our progress through email, Facebook, lectures, and exhibits.
